Chapter 1. Task 1

*What is the definition of government?

-There are many definitions of the word government. Although in my opinion it means ' a certain group of people formed to create a service meant to control; advise; or maintain those who they control.

*Explain what the purpose of the government is.

- According to the constitution of the United States the government was formed to include:unity, justice, domestic tranquility, defense, promotion of the general welfare of the citizens and securing liberty for all.

-The governments purpose is to protect its people from attacks and offer public service in order to keep its nation a safe place to live. The government also protects citizens from unfair business practice and also keeps criminals locked away in prisons for the safety of the people. There are many purposes that the government offers, although there is one crucial purpose and that is to protect the righst of its citizens so that each and every person can be able to live equally.

*How do various theories explain the origin of government?

-The Force Theory: claims that a state was born of force or that a person or small group gained control of an area.

-The Evolutionary Theory: claims that state developed naturally out of the early family; or was born when a tribe gave up its nomadic ways, or possibly evolved overtime.

- The Divine Right Theory: claims that God himself gave a certain individual the right to rule.

- The Social Contract Theory: claims state exist only to serve the will of people; and are the source of political power. They are also free to give or withold the power as they choose. It also means that people gave up some freedom to it to maintain personal safety and protection of property.

Which theory is used in the United States and why?

-I believe that the United States uses the 'Social Contract' theory because citizens have given up some of their freedom in order for the government to maintain our safety. Another reason is that it is the source of political power in the U.S.
